New contributing photographer/historian!
You may have noticed a reader by the nickname of Raleigh Boy leaving some very detailed comments on posts about Raleigh's past. We felt his wealth of information would be much more useful as an author rather than a reader, so we brought him on board! We are very excited to have Karl contributing not only original historic photos to the site but first hand accounts of Raleigh 'way back when'. You can read more information about him on the Staff section of the about page.

Just released a new site update. Most changes were minor:

  • updated the sidebar
  • created an about page
  • updated the prints section
  • remove the calendars page (but they are still available under prints)

New Sidebar Features
I just discovered that the site redesign blew away all the links to other blogger/web page author friends. I just added it back. I also set up a custom sidebar feed for recent post comments.

The Feed
I've heard from at least 2 readers expressing their unhappiness about the change in feed settings recently. I noticed in some readers that 3 images and a bunch of text made for difficult reading, so I changed blogger's settings to 'short'. Evidently 'short' means text only. It's been changed back to 'full'.

Press Coverage
The N&O just covered the blog! Craig's a great writer and a real journalist.

New Design and New Photographers!
Complete site redesign. There are also two new contributing photographers.

Devin McKim- Was born in Greenville, North Carolina, but came to Raleigh at a very early age and has been here since. He has enjoyed seeing the city develop and grow and likes to help document that through photos. Also a recent grad of the College of Design at NCSU.

Steve Wilcox- Has lived in Raleigh for the past two years. Has also lived in Winston-Salem, Greensboro and Lincolnton as well as many other areas of the country. Digital photography is a hobby and the nightlife of downtown Raleigh is a fun project.

Added links to two new blogs, Goodnight, London! and Goodnight, Asheville!.

I decided to start incorporating Google's new Street View feature into posts where possible. I had initially started embedding Google Maps after I get a couple of requests for adddresses of locations featured here.

Although I am thrilled to use this new feature, it will not change the scope or focus of this blog. The premise is to generate the original photos shown here, not mimic the ones of others.

There will soon be another contributing photographer to Goodnight, Raleigh!. Details to come soon.

Calendars are here! Take a look at the new page that talks about them.

I just added NC State to the "View Posts By Topic" section. If interested in things NCSU, check it out. I hope to add even more NCSU related posts in the near future.

You may not have noticed, but I haven't had very many "night life" type photos in a while. This is because of the weather. When the temperatures were comfortable, people were out and about. It was fun for me to be out and about. Unfortunately this is no longer the case. So, until it warms up and it's easier for me to walk around, most of the pictures won't involve people.
