I can't say I've ever been to Clyde Cooper's BBQ (not a fan of BBQ), but I have a good amount of respect for a business in operation since 1938 (but only the same owner since 1988). A friend of mine works for Progress Energy and said that everyone there wanted Clyde Cooper's to stay in the same location, despite the massive amounts of construction going on all around it. A good reason is more than likely the great food within such a short distance from work. Whatever the case for it's continued existence, it's a good thing to see.

Wilmington Street is likely the most photographed street on this blog. For a similar but much lower altitude perspective, check out my post last month of the Wilmington Street cityscape.

This image is looking on the same street, but in a different direction as an image from the post titled More Views From The Sheraton. Taken near/on the roof of the Sheriff's Office/Wake County Jail.

Just another (partial) shot of Raleigh's Skyline. This was taken only a few feet from the spot at which I got the Convention Center that was previously posted.

A coworker of mine bought a calendar and asked about this month's photo (not the one above) which had the arrow (as shown above). I have no idea as to its purpose, and nor does anyone else I've asked.
If you'd like to see it for yourself, climb to the top of the parking deck at Moore Square Station. It has appeared in a previous blog post, but I didn't really mention it.
Anyone know what the story is with this giant arrow?

UPDATE (4/09): My friend over at The Raleigh Connoisseur posted a photo of the same object on the same day as I. Check it out for a good look during the day!

Not much to say about this one. Wachovia, BB&T, Progress, West (under construction), The Clarion Tower among most others are here, if not obscured or barely visible.

So this makes the second time in one month that I have featured the Riviera. I also did back in August. It's a great bar/restaurant on Wilmington Street.

While walking back from the Murphey School Auditorium I saw these spring time buds hanging from a tree near the Legislative Building. I am no expert on trees or plants, so I have no idea what type of tree this is.

The new set of stairs connected to the Raleigh Furniture Building (more photos on that to come later) on Hargett Street provides a new perspective on Hargett and the surrounding buildings, including RBC Plaza.

This post is the 250th one since I first started this blog in August. The average is around 1.1 posts per day. In addition to the post count, There are over 570 unique images in the upload directory (excluding thumbnails). This averages out to 2.5 images per day since the blog started.

This is the Marbles Kids Museum on Blount Street. Back in August, I posted a photo of what was then called Exploris. I certainly am not fond of the new name. I can understand that the name appeals to kids more, though. I mean heck, when taste tested against the same food without it, kids prefer food that has the McDonald's logo. Brand perception starts at an early age, and Exploris could sound stuffy and boring to a young person.

As seen from Fayetteville Street and Salisbury Street, respectively. The design of both the court house and the Federal Building looks the same on both sides. The courthouse was completed in 1970, and is 11 stories tall.

Horse Track Alley is a public road that you won't find on any map. In fact, I had no idea it even had a name, until about 2-3 months ago when this sign popped up out of no where. It's very near where I live, and I walk down it frequently when out with the dogs.
It's also the first sign I've ever seen that had the double zero designation. It begins on Clark Ave near Cameron Village, and dead ends behind some businesses on Hillsborough St. (El Rodeo being the only one I can recall at the moment).
Anyone have any info on the origin of the name? Are there any other designated "alleys" in Raleigh with their own street sign?

One of the first few posts on this blog was a few of the images I took of downtown Raleigh in 2004, when I first moved here from Asheville. The first image is of the back side of the Oyster Bar, and this image is the side near the rail road tracks.

I read about Raleigh's Coverage by Google's street maps over at New Raleigh, and probably did what every other Raleigh resident did and I typed in my own address. It was awesome, to say the least. I can say that this feature is especially exciting for this blog.
The first thing a friend of mine (who also used to be a room mate) did was retrace steps from our house to class. I did the same thing, and was just absolutely blown away. The idea of an experience on the computer that is this close to real life is a pretty intense one.
I think the idea of a Raleigh street view with a Grand Theft Auto flavor is a bit unnerving. If you mix Raleigh street view and a Tony Hawk Skateboarding franchise, then you've got a hit.

I hadn't given it much thought up until this point, but other than my first blog post, I'm not sure I've ever posted a pic of me on the blog before. Here is where I was goofing off with my back to a street lamp near the Convention Center construction.

The blue streak in this photo is caused by a police officer on a motorcycle. His buddy directing traffic was kind enough to halt both directions for a good bit of time so he could squeeze his bike through with ease.

I decided to take advantage of the heavy traffic to get a few cityscape shots from the Sheraton. If you are having deja vu, maybe it's because I made a similar post back in September.

A bit over a month ago, I made a post about the Morgan Street Bridge. I walked to Fayetteville St. for First Night 2008 as I was sure parking would be a nightmare with 40,000 predicted to be in attendance. The walk there provided me the opportunity to get a good cityscape image from the bridge.

As a disclaimer, I've never been to The Office on West Martin Street. Being a fan of electronic music, I have toyed with the idea a few times. Unfortunately, every time I approach I see parking lots full of Hummer SUV limousines and Lincoln limousines, with giant Valet parking signs and red carpet. As much as I idealize the thought of relaxing in a former blacksmith shop and Logans Coal Warehouse, I've yet to go into the place. Seems too out of place. Catering to an exclusive crowd, in a building with much history.
